Description

Risk communication is the exchange of information between government, experts, interest holders and the community about a risk with the goal of empowering individuals to engage in risk prevention or harm reduction. This online self-paced course presents the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to communicate risks effectively. Participants will explore the key aspects of risk communication through theory, tools, and real-life examples, and will apply their newfound knowledge through a learning scenario that references the Toolkit for Risk Communicators.

Topics include:

  • reviewing the foundational concepts of risk communication
  • identifying best practices for communicating uncertainty
  • managing misinformation and disinformation
  • creating inclusive communication strategies
  • understanding ethics in risk communication
