Description

Language is a powerful tool for affirming and expressing identity in ways that are inclusive and respectful. This course introduces the principles and practices of inclusive writing through hands-on activities to help public servants communicate more equitably and respectfully with people of diverse gender identities. Participants will learn techniques that ensure the equitable representation of all genders in their written communications and recognize the existence of non-binary and gender-diverse identities.

Topics include:

  • applying simple techniques and reformulations to promote inclusivity
  • writing in ways that represent non-binary and gender-diverse individuals
  • recognizing and avoiding gendered assumptions in language
