Please note that there will be no live Q&A, but you can submit your questions for our speaker once you have registered. This will enable him to prepare a presentation that will fully address your interests and questions.

The 2023 Deputy Ministers’ Task Team on Values and Ethics Report, along with the 2024 Symposium on Values and Ethics in Today's Federal Public Service, have highlighted the continued need for ongoing dialogue on values and ethics in the workplace. Specifically, public servants have identified new and emerging tensions and expectations, many of which revolve around the need to better understand how to operationalize the core values of public service, including “neutrality” and “loyalty”.
This keystone event spotlights Ian Stedman, Associate Professor of Canadian Public Law and Governance at York University and the 2024/25 Jocelyne Bourgon Visiting Scholar, who will dig deeper into the discussion on values and ethics, and how to reconcile one's personal views with the expectations of being a public servant.
Participants will gain insights into the history of federal values and ethics standards, the current discourse, and modern perspectives about the Values and Ethics Code for the Public Sector.
Launched in October 2021, the Jocelyne Bourgon Visiting Scholar Initiative recognizes academic expertise, fosters fresh ideas, and obtains an external perspective on priority issues within the Government of Canada.
