Description

To meet the evolving needs of hiring managers, human resources (HR) specialists must navigate through complex staffing actions, work closely with clients, and understand the distinction between requirements and considerations when making recommendations. This course (Part 2 of 3) builds on the foundational elements explained in Part 1 by examining the importance of effective planning during the staffing process. Participants will learn how to establish effective, flexible, and inclusive merit criteria, assessment plans and methods, with discretion and consideration.

Topics include:

  • reviewing the legal foundations of the merit principle
  • providing advice and recommendations on establishing merit criteria
  • identifying, developing and reviewing efficient and inclusive assessment plans, methods, and tools
  • applying the legislative and regulatory frameworks governing priority entitlements
  • managing activities related to priority entitlements (registration, updates, marketing, referrals, and feedback)

Prerequisites:

This course is delivered through a combination of self-paced and virtual classroom instruction over a 3-week period. Participants begin by meeting virtually with their peers for a 2.5-hour, instructor-led discussion. Participants are then required to complete three online self-paced modules before meeting again virtually for two additional 2.5-hour, instructor-led discussions.

To complete the course successfully, participants must attend all three facilitated sessions. Participants must also complete all three self-paced modules (approximately 10 hours of work) before attending the second facilitated session.

This course is the second part of a three-part suite of courses for HR specialists:
