Description

Required equipment for virtual courses

To fully participate in the School's virtual courses, you must have a camera and a microphone.

To meet the evolving needs of hiring managers, human resources (HR) specialists must navigate through complex staffing actions, work closely with clients, and understand the distinction between requirements and considerations when making recommendations. This course (Part 2 of 3) builds on the foundational elements explained in Part 1 by examining the importance of effective planning during the staffing process. Participants will learn how to establish effective, flexible, and inclusive merit criteria, assessment plans and methods, with discretion and consideration.

Topics include:

  • reviewing the legal foundations of the merit principle
  • providing advice and recommendations on establishing merit criteria
  • identifying, developing and reviewing efficient and inclusive assessment plans, methods, and tools
  • applying the legislative and regulatory frameworks governing priority entitlements
  • managing activities related to priority entitlements (registration, updates, marketing, referrals, and feedback)

Notes:

Before registering for this course, participants must first complete the following prerequisite courses, which include part 1 of this course suite:

  1. Basics of Staffing in the Public Service (COR111)
  2. Inclusive Hiring Practices for a Diverse Workforce (COR120)
  3. Staffing for HR Specialists, Part 1: Understanding (COR129)

To receive a certificate of completion for COR130, participants must attend all three virtual classroom sessions over the course of three weeks and complete the online self-paced modules before the second and third virtual instructor-led sessions:

  1. Virtual instructor-led session 1 (week 1, 2.5 hours)
  2. Self-paced modules 5 and 6 (approximately 10 hours of work)
  3. Virtual instructor-led session 2 (week 3, 2.5 hours)
  4. Virtual instructor-led session 3 (week 3, 2.5 hours)
