Description

To meet the evolving needs of hiring managers, human resources (HR) specialists must navigate complex staffing actions, work closely with clients, and distinguish between requirements and considerations when making recommendations. This course (Part 3 of 3) builds on the foundational elements covered in Part 1 and Part 2 to conclude with a review of the assessment, selection, and post-appointment steps during a staffing process. Participants will explore the importance of effective planning and discover how to handle accommodation requests, understand grounds for complaints and investigations, and fulfill official language obligations through flexible and inclusive staffing practices.

Topics include:

  • applying legislative, policy and organizational frameworks from recruitment to appointment
  • providing guidance on informal discussions, selection decisions, notifications, and appointments
  • participating in monitoring, audits, investigations and complaint activities

Notes:

Before registering for this course, participants must first complete the following prerequisite courses, which include parts 1 and 2 of this course suite:

  1. Basics of Staffing in the Public Service (COR111)
  2. Inclusive Hiring Practices for a Diverse Workforce (COR120)
  3. Staffing for HR Specialists, Part 1: Understanding (COR129)
  4. Staffing for HR Specialists, Part 2: Planning (COR130)

To receive a certificate of completion for COR131, participants must attend all three virtual classroom sessions over the course of one week and complete all self-paced modules before the corresponding virtual session:

  1. Virtual instructor-led session 1 (2.5 hours)
  2. Self-paced modules 7 and 8 (1.5 days, 4.5 hours of work): must be completed before virtual instructor-led session 2
  3. Virtual instructor-led session 2 (2.5 hours)
  4. Self-paced modules 9 and 10 (1.5 days, 4.5 hours of work): must be completed before virtual instructor-led session 3
  5. Virtual instructor-led session 3 (2.5 hours)
