The Public Service Employment Act makes managers responsible and accountable for their staffing. This course presents a practical framework for exercising delegated staffing authority as a manager. Participants will be taken through various scenarios to reflect and exchange on the considerations to be taken into account during the staffing process and the implications of each.

Topics include:

  • establishing effective merit criteria
  • developing a candidate assessment strategy
  • identifying biases and barriers, and ways of eliminating or mitigating them

Notes:

This course is part 2 of a two-part course suite, which begins with the prerequisite Staffing for Managers, Part 1: Building on the Basics (COR112) (online self-paced), followed by Staffing for Managers, Part 2: Practical Application (COR132) (virtual instructor-led). Staffing for Managers, Part 1: Building on the Basics (COR112) is a prerequisite.
