The financial resources of the Government of Canada are safeguarded through balanced controls that enable flexibility and manage risk. This course for seasoned executives examines the principles and processes behind strategic resourcing and financial management, as well as the important role played by central agencies. Through practical workshops, participants will explore challenges, reflect on current practices and engage with colleagues to identify best practices for effectively securing the resources needed to deliver on their organizational mandate.

Topics include:

  • examining accountability and stewardship
  • managing finances and achieving results
  • seeking authorizations and securing resources
  • reporting on results and measuring performance
  • advocating for proper financial resources

Notes:

This course is delivered as two consecutive days of training. Registration is reserved for employees at the EX-02 and EX-03 levels. A short readiness questionnaire will be administered prior to the offering date to enable full participation in class discussions.

A valid Authority Delegation Validation Assessment for Executives (COR254) certificate is a required prerequisite for this course. Certifications are valid for five years.

Executive employees registering for COR215 are encouraged to also complete the Authority Delegation Training: Using Public Funds Responsibly (COR250) to refresh their understanding of the core principles of financial management.
