Democratic institutions are under mounting pressures as public trust declines and artificial intelligence reshapes how information and services are distributed, and how power is exercised. At a moment when governments and workplaces across Canada are grappling with the risks and promises of AI, this conversation is increasingly important for anyone concerned with the future of effective and inclusive democracy.
Drawing on her forthcoming book Reboot: AI and the Race to Save Democracy, author Beth Simone Noveck will explore how AI can be designed and governed to strengthen democratic practice rather than undermine it, using real-world examples from governments around the world. The event will further highlight practical ways that AI can support elections, representation, and public service delivery, as well as what governments, institutions, and individuals can do to build AI for the public good.
Participants will gain insight into treating democratic renewal as a concrete design and as a governance challenge in the AI era, and leave with a clearer understanding of actionable approaches for leveraging AI to make democratic systems more responsive, effective, and inclusive.
