Description

When designing products and services, it is crucial to understand the perspectives, problems, and needs of the people who will use them. This email-based course explores the principles of human-centred design and how to use them to deliver inclusive, accessible and viable products, services, and policies. Participants will learn how to frame and identify problems and how to prototype solutions effectively.

Topics include:

  • defining problems
  • identifying stakeholders
  • validating assumptions with the people impacted by the problem
  • designing inclusive and accessible solutions
  • learning through continuous testing and iteration

Notes:

This course was developed in partnership with Apolitical. To access the required readings, participants must create an account with Apolitical using their work email address.

Participants will receive their first lesson within one week of registering for the course. Then, each week for five weeks, participants will receive an email on a different human-centred design principle, including links to required readings or videos (15 minutes) and other optional resources and reflection questions (15 to 30 minutes).

At the end of the five weeks, participants who have completed the required readings and videos will receive a certificate of completion.

Schedule:

  • Week 1: Design is for everyone
  • Week 2: Falling in love with the problem
  • Week 3: It's not about you
  • Week 4: Leave no one behind
  • Week 5: Learn by doing
