Description

The Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve, National Marine Conservation Area Reserve and Haida Heritage Site is located in the southern one-third of Haida Gwaii, an archipelago off the northwest coast of British Columbia. To take care of these lands and waters and to foster the continuity of Haida culture in Gwaii Haanas requires strong relationships and collaboration from the Archipelago Management Board, a cooperative management board with equal representation from the Council of the Haida Nation and the Government of Canada.

This insightful event explores the globally unique and studied cooperative relationship behind the protection and planning at Gwaii Haanas, and the Haida laws and values that align closely with the enhanced GBA Plus process. These laws and values help to inform responsive decisions and implement inclusive solutions aimed at addressing ongoing systemic barriers.

Participants will learn how to best apply enhanced GBA Plus steps, what GBA Plus resources are available to them, and how Indigenous values influence decision-making and operations in the Gwaii Haanas islands. This event is presented in partnership with Women and Gender Equality Canada.
