When developing regulatory proposals, consideration of their economic, environmental and social impacts is a critical and often mandatory first step. This course provides a general introduction to cost-benefit analysis (CBA) and demonstrates how to apply CBA to federal regulatory initiatives. Participants will become familiar with the fundamental steps to completing a CBA and learn how to develop solid baseline and regulatory scenarios.

Topics include:

  • understanding the analytical steps in the CBA process
  • identifying costs and benefits for different stakeholder groups
  • applying best practices for collaborating and meeting reporting requirements
  • reviewing the information found in a CBA report

Notes:

This course is divided into two 3-hour sessions, offered on the same day of the week, one week apart, over a period of two weeks.

This course is for federal public servants at all levels who work in the regulatory field. It may also benefit those who are new to the regulatory process or to cost-benefit analysis, or anyone who has a general interest in these areas.
