Understanding the history of gender equality in Canada is essential to recognizing both the progress made and the systemic barriers and inequalities that persist. This online self-paced micro-course presents an interactive timeline of key legal, social, and political milestones that have shaped gender equality in Canada from 1900 to the present day. Participants will explore how advocacy, political reform and social movements have influenced rights, representation, and inclusion over time and recognize that progress has not been experienced equally by all groups.
Topics include:
- exploring key historical events related to gender equality in Canada
- examining gender equality through legal, social, political, economic, and intersectional lenses
- recognizing how advocacy, policy changes, and social movements have shaped progress over time
- reflecting on progress made toward gender equality and toward eliminating systemic barriers and inequalities
