To fully participate in the School's virtual courses, you must have a camera and a microphone.
Diversity and inclusion are essential for building a modern, high-performing public service. This course introduces the concepts, terminology and vocabulary related to gender and sexual diversity, as well as the importance of Positive Space and how to become an ally. Participants will discuss issues relevant to the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and learn to contribute to a safer, more inclusive public service.
Topics include:
- reviewing terminology and vocabulary
- exploring 2SLGBTQIA+ history in Canada
- defining Positive Space and why it is important
- understanding heteronormativity, cis-normativity and privilege
- being an ally
Notes:
Learners who wish to become a Positive Space Ambassador will need to complete Positive Space Initiative: 2SLGBTQIA+ Awareness (INC111) and Positive Space Initiative: Becoming an Ambassador for 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusion (INC112), or equivalents.
2SLGBTQIA+ = Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, aromantic, agender and people who identify as being part of sexual and gender diverse communities.
