Description
First steps towards understanding racism include being honest about our past, aware of intergenerational trauma, and informed about the impacts of racial discrimination in our society. Adapted from the Ontario Human Rights Commission, this online self-paced course explains the meaning of race, racism, and racial discrimination, and presents a historical overview of racism and racial discrimination in Canada. Participants will learn about the human rights protections under the Canadian Human Rights Act and will take away practical approaches for preventing and addressing instances of racial discrimination in their workplace.
Topics include:
- revisiting the history and root causes of racism in Canada
- recognizing the historical and current-day implications of racism in Canada
- identifying indications of race-based discrimination and harassment in the workplace
- describing the different impacts that racism and racial discrimination can have in people's live
- identifying ways to address racism and racial discrimination at work
