Description

Policies, programs, and public services are designed to meet the needs of the people they serve. However, there can be gaps between best intentions and the realities of those affected by them. In Indigenous contexts, this may rise because of the ongoing impacts of colonial policies and the importance of Indigenous voices, knowledge and perspectives in decision-making.

This engaging event will explore how lived experience can inform better policies and programs, how voices are heard or overlooked, and the unintended consequences of past and misguided policies. It will also examine what can be learned from Indigenous perspectives on relationships, community engagement, and co-development.

Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the challenges involved in applying diverse perspectives to their work, including in Indigenous contexts, and how to apply listening, empathy, and cultural humility.
