Description

Public servants play an important role in advancing reconciliation by helping to build stronger relationships at the working level between First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples and the Government of Canada, and by fostering an inclusive workplace for Indigenous public servants. This online self-paced course supports the government's commitment to the value and outcomes of reconciliation by exploring in depth the four themes featured throughout the Indigenous Learning Series: recognition, respect, relationships, and reconciliation. By learning more about Indigenous realities, participants will be better equipped to support their departmental obligations towards reconciliation in a respectful, inclusive, meaningful and culturally sensitive manner.

Topics include:

• Recognition: acknowledging Indigenous experiences, expressions and narratives—past and present
• Respect: respecting Indigenous worldviews, knowledge systems, relationships with the land, cultural heritage, and Treaty rights
• Relationships: recognizing that Indigenous Peoples have a say in decisions that affect their rights and interests
• Reconciliation: working with Indigenous Peoples towards a better future

Notes:

Each Monday for four consecutive weeks, participants will receive an email assignment on an Indigenous-related topic, including recommended learning, resources and questions for personal reflection. Links will also be provided to supporting articles, podcasts, job aids, videos, and other resources.

At the end of the four-week course, participants who have successfully completed the assigned activities will receive a certificate of completion.
