Learning about Indigenous Peoples and understanding their viewpoints with compassion is an important step towards building strong and respectful relationships. Delivered in partnership with KAIROS Canada, this exercise provides a unique participatory history lesson that focuses on the loss of Indigenous lands and cultural assimilation policies. Participants will engage on intellectual and emotional levels to deepen their understanding of the shared history of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada.

This online self-paced course examines key historical periods, laws, policies, and events that have shaped the relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the Government of Canada, including treaty relationships, colonial expansion, assimilation policies, Indigenous resistance and advocacy, and modern reconciliation efforts.
This course is designed to address the professional development and training requirements of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Call to Action #57. Following respectful protocols, participants will discover little-known historical facts, learn about the impacts of Residential Schools and the rights of Indigenous Peoples, and better understand the obligations of public servants towards Indigenous Peoples.
