Innovation starts as an opportunity. This online self-paced course (2 of 3) frames innovation as an opportunity and presents helpful techniques for identifying and understanding the needs of partners and stakeholders. Participants will learn about the importance of finding opportunities, taking the time to understand stakeholder needs, and reflecting on how innovation applies to their work.
Topics include:
- describing sensing and sensemaking methods
- identifying impactful opportunities to innovate
- devising and testing new methodologies in service of others

This course is part of the Fundamentals in Innovation Series, a three-part series that introduces the basic principles and practices of innovation that can be applied to any workplace or innovative idea. In a collaborative effort, MaRS Discovery District partnered with the Canada School of Public Service (CSPS) and the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) to create, design, and refine this series for the Government of Canada public service, based on a program developed with PHAC.
