Description

Project sponsors play a central role in enabling successful project outcomes. This course provides project sponsors with an understanding of their role and influence when sponsoring large-scale change initiatives in the Government of Canada. Through a mix of online self-paced and in-class activities, participants will learn about their responsibilities as project sponsors, their accountabilities, and project assurance practices that contribute to effective project or programme delivery.

Topics include:

  • explaining portfolio, programme, project, and product management
  • examining accountabilities and leadership roles in project management
  • reviewing project and programme management frameworks, governance, and assurance
  • exploring stakeholder engagement and business case ownership

Notes:

To register for this course, learners must first confirm their status as an executive.

This course is intended for executives who are currently sponsoring, or who will be sponsoring, one or more projects. If you are not an executive but are interested in taking this course, please send a request email to the Project Management Team at projectmanagementleader-leadergestionprojet@csps-efpc.gc.ca.

The course includes a one-hour online, self-paced pre-course module that must be completed before attending the classroom session. Including this pre-course module, the course modules are as follows:

  • Module 1 – Pre-Course Introduction: 60 minutes, online self-paced
  • Module 2 – Portfolio, Programme, Project and Product Management: 105 minutes, classroom
  • Module 2.1 – Leadership Roles in the Management of Projects: 30 minutes, online self-paced
  • Module 3 – Accountability and Factors Affecting Project Success: 120 minutes, classroom
  • Module 3.1 – Presenting the Key Project Sponsor Accountabilities: 60 minutes, online self-paced
  • Module 4 – Programme Sponsors and Managing Programmes: 30 minutes, online self-paced (optional)
