A well-performing society cannot function without well-performing public institutions. The second quarter of the 21st century is poised to be more dangerous than the first, and the work of public sector leaders is critical to ensuring that Canada can successfully navigate through this period of accelerated change.
This special event will place a spotlight on A Public Servant’s Voice, the new book by the Honourable Jocelyne Bourgon, first woman Clerk of the Privy Council and former Head of the Public Service of Canada. Part memoir and part guide, Madame Bourgon's newest book offers a history lesson in the life of the Public Service of Canada, captured through personal experiences and recounted from a perspective that is highly relevant to public servants searching for what lies ahead.
This in-person event welcomes the Honourable Jocelyne Bourgon, who will introduce her new book, expand on its themes and chapters, and participate in a panel discussion about learning from the past to invent a better future. Participants will benefit from a unique opportunity to learn from Madame Bourgon's many years of leadership and distinguished career devoted to public service.
About the book
A Public Servant’s Voice is supported by Madame Bourgon's personal records, newly collected and transferred to Library and Archives Canada for permanent preservation. It follows her previous books, A New Synthesis of Public Administration (2011) and The New Synthesis Fieldbook (2017), as well as many other complementary articles. A Public Servant’s Voice was published in February 2026 through the University of Toronto Press.
