Description
Municipalities big and small are the order of government with which Canadians interact the most as part of their day-to-day lives. But the role and capacities of municipal governments are constantly being redefined by emerging issues and challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the opioid crisis, and the shortage of housing supply.
This fifth event in the series examines the critical role of municipalities in federalism and the effect on the Canadian population. Speakers will discuss the financial and governance issues faced by municipalities in navigating federalism and their relationships with federal, provincial and territorial governments.
Participants will gain a better understanding of the important role municipalities play in Canada's tiered system of governance and the provision of public services.
This event was held in partnership with the Institute for Research on Public Policy's Centre of Excellence on the Canadian Federation.
