Description

Acknowledgement

The CSPS was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Dr. Tim Cook, who delivered the following presentation on June 3, 2025.

We share this recording in recognition of his immense and significant contribution to Canadian military history and the history of the First and Second World Wars, as we approach Remembrance Day.

Our thoughts are with his family, colleagues and loved ones during this difficult time.

The Second World War (1939–1945) was a defining upheaval in history that reshaped borders, societies and the international order. As the most violent conflict in recent history, its legacy remains key to understanding the complexities of today’s global landscape.

This timely event marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, and will explore its origins, its impact on global institutions and alliances, and the lessons that Canada can still apply to address today’s geopolitical and security challenges.

Participants will gain a better understanding of current threats to global peace and security, including great power competition, democratic governance and challenges to multilateral cooperation, all within the context of the post-World War II order.

Speaker

  • Dr. Tim Cook, Chief Historian and Director of Research, Canadian War Museum

Moderator

  • Jill Sinclair, Retired senior official in the Government of Canada
