Description
Being accessible and inclusive means allowing unimpeded access or full participation without exclusion or exception. This online self-paced course challenges common assumptions and beliefs about people with disabilities and aims to shift the perspective from the impairment to the barrier. Participants will learn about the different barriers faced by people with disabilities and how to make their workplaces and the services they provide inclusive, accessible and barrier free.
Topics include:
- acknowledging the personal impact of exclusion
- learning from the experience of people with disabilities
- identifying the often-simple steps needed to make a document or service accessible
- finding tools and resources to support your work and to share with others
Notes:
Every day, people with disabilities face barriers related to employment, communications, information technology, procurement, transportation, and the built environment (buildings and public spaces). Other barriers are attitudinal in nature: sometimes invisible, unintentional or systemic and most often perpetuated by stigma or misunderstanding.
